For those of us who live in the Bay Area, we have it made when it comes to year-round picture-perfect racing weather. Sure, there are some months that are wetter or hotter or windier than others, but by and large, more often than not, the elements are favorable for racing outside.
Fortunately for us, we have no shortage of options from which we can select when it comes time to race alongside our families. Whether your children want to do run in some road races or dip their toes into the triathlon world, there’s something out there for everyone in the Bay Area.
Some of the most popular races for families in the Bay Area include the following:
The 41st running of The San Francisco Marathon returns Sunday, July 29th, 2018. Choose your distance - the Full Marathon (26.2 miles) starting at the San Francisco Ferry Building and looping the City, two Half Marathons (13.1 miles), the Ultra (solo or team relay) or the waterfront 5K run.
Strut Your Mutt, a fun dog walk and fundraising event, brings together thousands of passionate people from all across the country to raise money to save the lives of homeless pets.
If you are a runner who enjoys top-notch on course snacking, great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco City Skyline, as well as a fun atmosphere, then this is your run!
Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival invites you to the 2018 Vintage Festival 5k, 12k and Tiny Tots races on Sunday, September 30, 2018. If it’s your first race or you’re a pro, there’s a distance for you.
All participants receive epic views, awesome trails, adventure, a Honey Badger technical tee, an amazing multi-functional medal, a shot at winning tons of prizes from our sponsors/vendors via the trail treasure hunt, fuel/water/electrolyte drink at all aid stations, post-run beverages from Hint Water, BEER, Bare Snacks, Beanitos, post-run massage from PSOAS Massage/Bodywork, and more!
Mt. Tamalpais is the dominating feature in Marin County. Any true trail runner who sees it wants to run up it. Here’s your chance.
These are just a sample of the offerings in the Bay Area for family-friendly races. If you’re interested in participating in a local race but want to push a stroller, definitely consult the race director first. Some races strictly prohibit stroller participation due to insurance or liability reasons, making it better for you to play it safe than take a gamble.
Regardless, with our beautiful weather year-round, families in the Bay Area have no shortage of options for family-friendly races. How lucky our children will be to grow up here and to have such excellent exposure early on to these fun, welcoming, and health-focused environments!
