The Moon Festival and the Supermoon
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival is always the 15th day of the 8th month on the lunar calendar. Although that translates to a different day on the modern (Gregorian) calendar every year, it is always an occasion for families to reunite and have a good time together.
This year, it coincides with the first Supermoon of the year. This full moon in October is known by its nickname, the Harvest Moon, or the Hunter's Moon. It appears low and large on the horizon, and often much brighter and more colorful than its usual silver.
Join us on October 5, and get ready to welcome the Supermoon the next day – equip yourself with new songs and dances to serenade the moon, make lanterns to light up the festive night, and learn interesting stories and traditions to share with family and friends while viewing the spectacular Supermoon.
Free for children. Adults $20 suggested donation.
