Bernal Hill Bioblitz!

  • Bernal Heights Branch Library 500 Cortland Avenue San Francisco, CA, 94110 United States (map)

Bernal Library in partnership with California Academy of Sciences (CAS) and SF Rec & Park is hosting a Bioblitz at the top of Bernal Hill. We will have a biologist from Rec & Park to guide us in locating and identifying local flora and fauna. Together, using smart phones we will document our findings and upload them to the iNaturalist* (a global database created by CAS.) After we finish our fieldwork we will head back down to the library for snacks and uploading our finds!

Our bioblitz is family friendly & open to all. Just bring your smartphone loaded with the iNaturalist app (see link below.) If you don’t have a smartphone you can team up with someone who does.  We will meet at the entrance gate between Anderson and Bocana Streets on Bernal Heights Road.

Bioblitzes are gatherings of scientists, citizen scientists, land managers, and more, all working together to find and identify as many different species as possible. Bioblitzes help land managers build a species list and atlas for parks and provide invaluable data for researchers and they highlight the incredible biodiversity in these Bay Area oases.
