California Lichen Society's (CALS) City Nature Challenge Hike

  • Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve Alpine Rd. and Skyline Blvd. CA 94062 (map)

As a part of the City Nature Challenge 2018, the California Lichen Society (CALS) will lead a short hike on Sat, April 28, 2018, on the Old Page Mill Trail in the Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve (San Mateo county).

Meet at the parking lot on the northwest corner of the Alpine Rd. and Skyline Blvd intersection @ 9:45. The hike, led by CALS members Ken Kellman and Julene "JJ" Johnson, will begin promptly @ 10am.

Bring lunch, water, a hand lens (if you have one), and dress for unpredictable weather. Ken and JJ will point out some classic California lichens on the hike and provide a basic introduction on how to use the iNaturalist app to log your lichen observations. After a break for lunch at noon, you will be "on your own" to continue logging observations for the City Nature Challenge. Check out www.californialichens.org for more information.
