A splashing centennial

On September 29, 1923, Steinhart Aquarium opened its doors for the first time, welcoming guests to immerse themselves in a never-before-seen underwater realm. Over the next century, millions marveled at creatures from around the world— from lively African penguins to brightly colored deep reef fishes — and nurtured their awe for the world's oceans. Simultaneously, beyond the boundaries of the aquarium Steinhart staff achieved numerous breakthroughs in animal care, aquarium science, global exploration, and regeneration.

So dust off those fedoras and shimmy into your flapper dresses because we're embarking on a grand voyage to the roaring twenties. Inside our sea speakeasy, you can dance the Charleston to live jazz, solve "The Case of Butterball the Missing Manatee," and much more! Let loose and bask in a century of aquatic wonder and scientific innovation. It’ll be the cat’s pajamas (or shall we say the shark’s pajamas).
