TRACKING & BACKPACKING

**AGES 10-13**
In this program, we will spend three days and two nights in backcountry camps in Point Reyes as we get to know various ecosystems along with their local plants and animals. From the temperate rainforest near Sky Camp all the way to the sea at Coast Camp, we will learn to navigate the coast using ancient and modern technology. Star-gazing & sun dials will balance our map and compass as we wander the trails of deer and coyote. Carrying all our supplies upon our backs, we will purify our own water and make fire by friction. We will practice the way of the scout – tracking animals, plants, tides, lunar rhythms, and ourselves – connecting deeply with the land and each other. This tween trip will include various forms of solo time as well, from sit spots to sunsets, allowing each youth to listen to nature inside and out. As we observe how local wildlife relates to one another, we will explore our own group dynamics and communication on trail and in camp.

NATURE ADVENTURE

**AGES 4-6 / FAIRFAX, CHINA CAMP & TARA FIRMA FARMS**
Look for frogs, hidden treasures and animal tracks as we make our way through the landscape playing games and singing. This half-day camp is for the younger crew and focuses on experiencing the magic of nature in a hands-on, fun way. Timeless exploration, storytelling and free play balanced by creative nature-based activities and games. Group participation skills are invisibly woven into the day.

Each one of our sites provides something fun and different. When in the Fairfax woods we focus a tad more on tracking and plants, when at the farm we get a chance to meet the farm animals, at China Camp we get some safe beach and water play time.

Nature Adventure runs Monday-Friday from 9:00AM - 1:00PM in Fairfax, China Camp and Tara Firma Farms, Petaluma (check the session listings for locations). This camp is appropriate for first time as well as experienced campers ages 4-6.

Vilda’s beloved nature day camps are an organic, all natural, local, free range, 100% awesome summer experience in the hills, lakes and bays of Marin and at a 250-acre organic farm in Petaluma. With wilderness skills, nature connection and ecological stewardship wrapped in lots of adventure and play, campers learn about animal tracking, wild edible plants, primitive skills, natural dyes and much, much more. Vilda offers programs in Fairfax, San Rafael, Petaluma and Point Reyes for ages 4-13. Their San Rafael camps additionally include swimming and kayaking or hands on skills such as carpentry and ecological crafts, and their Petaluma camps include organic farming and tending baby farm animals. Vilda’s highly trained adult instructors provide kids with a caring individualistic experience at a 1:6 instructor to camper ratio or better.
