Beloved Marin Music Teacher Brings The Joy Of Music Class Into Your Home

It isn’t just her childlike wonder…

…endless energy, infectious laugh, or playfulness that makes Amanda Hahn so beloved by her music students. It’s the care and respect she gives every student who walks into her classroom – or these days, Zoom room. She knows every child’s name right off the bat, which songs are their favorite, and which students are most motivated by that end-of-class sticker. She makes each class new and interesting, and anyone who’s ever seen her teach wonders at her ability to step into the minds and hearts of children.

A certified Orff-Schulwerk teacher of Music and Movement, Amanda has been teaching music in a variety of Bay Area school settings for 20 years. She is a music specialist in Marin County public schools and is a devoted private teacher of her flute, piano, and voice students. In her classes, students joyfully participate in songs from around the world, rhythm games and dancing. She looks for ways to reach every student through her playful style, enjoying their eagerness to explore music creatively and really do their best.

Amanda has been cultivating musical joy across the county with Marin Girls Chorus for over nine years. This past semester, she seamlessly transitioned her classes online, bringing as many of the musical games and class traditions with her as she could. Her creativity, playfulness, and personal relationship with each singer fostered a loyalty that kept singers coming back to class every week, even in the height of screen fatigue.

This summer, Amanda will offer her talents to Marin Girls Chorus’ tenth annual and first virtual summer camp for girls entering grades K-5. Participants from all over the county and beyond can expect games, crafts, yoga, and much more as Amanda’s wildly popular camp is augmented for the virtual world. Two weeks of camp will be offered, starting June 15 and 22 respectively.

Amanda Hahn

A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Amanda received a Bachelor of Music degree from Boston University and a Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Since completing her Orff teaching certification, Amanda has participated in intensive training courses with internationally renowned teachers to help round out her work, including Integrating the Arts, Orff for All Ages, and a Kodály conducting course at the Kodaly Center at Holy Names University. When she has time, she freelances as a flutist and choral conductor; in September 2016, she conducted the International Space Orchestra Chorus at the Hollywood Bowl.
