San Francisco Returns to the Rose Parade After Nearly 50 Years

“Believe in San Francisco” Float to Shine in Pasadena on January 1, 2026

For the first time in almost half a century, San Francisco is making a triumphant return to the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. On January 1, 2026, the city will proudly roll down Colorado Boulevard with its new float, “Believe in San Francisco,” a vibrant tribute to the city’s iconic spirit, history, and resilience.

The float will celebrate some of San Francisco’s most beloved landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Painted Ladies, a classic cable car, and the ornate Dragon Gate of Chinatown—all brought to life using natural, botanical materials in true Rose Parade tradition. This moment marks a major civic milestone for San Francisco, reconnecting the city with one of America’s most cherished New Year’s Day traditions.

Bay Area Residents Invited to Help Build the Float

In a special opportunity for locals, the float will be partially decorated right in Union Square, giving the public a chance to take part in this historic moment.

Public Decorating Details:

When: December 19–21, 2025
Time: 11:00 am – 9:00 pm daily
Where: Union Square — Stockton Street between Geary & O’Farrell

Participants will help apply natural materials—such as corn husks, split peas, eucalyptus leaves, seeds, and other botanical elements—to the float’s surface. Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are welcome, offering a rare hands-on experience with one of the nation’s most famous parades.
