Mirror Mirror on the Wall, where's the fairest Panto of them all? Snow White beyond the mountains at the Throckmorton Theatre is a thousand times more pantoier than you. Don't miss this hilarious modern retelling of Snow White that is sure to be a holiday tradition for the whole family! I caught up with director and award-winning theatre artist, Nicole Helfer, to find out more about Snow White the Panto

What is Panto?

The Panto is a style of theatre developed in England partly from 16th century commedia dell'arte and 17th century masques and popular British music halls. Usually performed during holiday time, the modern day Panto includes music, gags, slapstick, dancing, gender-crossing actors, and topical humor combined with popular songs. Most Pantos use the stories of known fairytales combined with current popular references. It is a highly participatory form of theatre where audiences can expect to sing along or shout out phrases to the performers.

Can you tell us a bit about Snow White the Panto and how this style impacts this performance?

Our production of Snow White, written by local playwright, Tyler Null, is the classic story of a young women who is shunned by her jealous stepmother and runs away to escape death, only to come upon enchanted talking animals and a group of seven very dynamic dwarves. Snow White's unwavering bravery and strength of heart lead her on a journey to discover the truth of what it means to belong. This story comes to life with amazing puppets, commedia dell'arte masks, bold characters and marvelous music and dance.

Is this a family friendly production? Is it okay to come in costume?

Our show is for all ages! Costumes are welcome.

This isn't your typical fairytale princess, it's Snow White the Panto. This is sure to sell out fast so get your tickets today so they can all live happily ever after!
