Santa Rosa Junior College’s (SRJC) Shone Farm welcomes the community to celebrate the season at its annual Fall Festival, presented by American AgCredit, on Saturday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 7450 Steve Olson Lane in Forestville.
Admission is $5 per person; children 2 and under are free.
The Fall Festival offers a rare opportunity to experience Shone Farm during harvest season. Students, faculty, and staff from SRJC’s Agriculture and Natural Resources Department will lead activities, showcase student projects, and share the bounty of fresh, locally grown food.
Festival activities include:
U-pick pumpkins, apples, and sweet potatoes
Children's games, arts and crafts, pedal tractors, and the popular “rotten fruit’ slingshot
Student project showcase, including fresh-cut flowers
Tractor "show and tell" and farm equipment displays
Barn animal meet and greet
Free farm tours, hay bale rides, and family photos
Wine tasting (additional $10 per person)
Guests can visit the farm stand featuring a variety of seasonal vegetables. Shone Farm wines will be available for tasting in the student-run tasting room, and the barn will be open for visitors to meet the farm animals. Lunch options include burgers and hot dogs prepared by Sebastopol FFA, hoagies and popcorn benefiting SRJC’s Ag Ambassadors club, and the Black Piglet food truck benefiting Farm to Pantry, plus vegetarian and vegan options.
SRJC Environmental Studies student Ariana Covarrubias, who volunteered at last year’s festival, said: "I look forward to Fall Fest every year! The event is truly spectacular with a wide variety of activities for all ages. I love seeing the families choose their pumpkins for their Jack-O-Lanterns! The kids always have a great time, and the family portraits always turn out amazing!"
