Indigenous Peoplesʼ Day at Children’s Fairyland

  • Children’s Fairyland 699 Bellevue Avenue Oakland, CA, 94610 United States (map)

Spend your holiday at Fairyland uplifting the voices of Indigenous Peoples.

Join us for Native American storytime at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and special performances by live storyteller Alicia Retes at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Take a walk over to the Ohloneland sign on Fairy Hill and take a minute to reflect upon the origins of this land and the people at the core of its origin story.

Fairyland Land Acknowledgement:
The magical storytelling of Fairyland takes place in the ancestral land of the Lisjian (Ohlone) people. We recognize the joy and laughter created here grows on stolen land and exists alongside the historical and ongoing colonization of Indigenous People. It is our honor to be in shared community with the original stewards of this land and we understand it is our responsibility to keep their stories alive, uplift their voices, and prioritize their presence on our platforms and in the park.

Fairyland encourages you to familiarize yourself with the history connected to the land we’re on here in Oakland and in the Bay Area. Fairyland encourages you have discussions at home with your family about the original stewards of this land and to stay in learning about how you can best show up for the original inhabitants of this land today, including but certainly not limited to brining books into your home that are written by and about Indigenous Peoples. As a place to start, our resident Book Fairy has put together a recommended reading list.
