Guerneville: First Day Walk through Armstrong

California State Parks participates in a nationwide effort to welcome all people to explore the outdoors with trail guides and other nature enthusiasts. Celebrate New Year’s Day with the annual First Day Hike of 2026, at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve! Bring your friends and family for an inspiring and rejuvenating walk below towering coast redwoods. Explore special features, such as the tallest, the smallest, the oldest, and some unique Coast Redwood trees, at Armstrong Redwoods SNR.

Experienced guides will meet participants near the Armstrong Redwoods Visitor Center. Walks will start each hour from 10AM to 1PM (10AM, 11AM, Noon, and 1PM). Each walk will last up to two hours, and you can join for any length of time you’d like to. The Pioneer Trail is a mile and a half long round trip, is ADA accessible, and is mostly flat and level. Steady rain may cancel. For more information please contact Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods. All ages are welcome., and children need to be accompanied by an adult. Dress in weather-appropriate clothing, including warm layers, as the forest is often damp and cool. Wear comfortable walking shoes or boots. Bring drinking water and snacks. Only service dogs are allowed on the walk. Non-service dogs are permitted only on paved roads.
