Prescribed Burns are important tools for land stewardship and conservation, but what is a prescribed burn?
Join us at the Pantol Campground Stage to Learn the answer. State Park Interpreter II Ryan Forbes will share photos, video, and stories from ongoing Wildfire and Forest Resilience work happening at Mount Tamalpais and around the North Bay.
Ryan will talk about how prescribed burns help us adapt to a changing climate and protect not only our communities but plant and animal communities as well.
Ryan Forbes has worked for California State Parks for 12 years, from ghost towns, to castles, and campgrounds. Currently he works as lead for the Bay Area District Education Team while also serving as a Public Information Officer for prescribed burn operations.

GENERAL THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT "PRESENTATION" SCIENCE QUEST EVENTS
CAPACITY: These events do not have capacity limits - come on out!
PARKING: We strongly recommend carpooling and arriving at least 30 minutes early to locate parking. Pantoll, Bootjack, and East Peak require a $8 fee - bring exact change! You can also pay through the Yodel app (https://www.yodelpass.com) . The Quarry Parking lot (just past Mountain Theater towards East Peak) is an option if Rock Spring Parking lot is full. Pantoll parking is very limited – BootJack sometimes will have open spots. Bus service schedule is available at https://marintransit.org/routes/61.
FAMILIES: Suitable for families with children who are interested in nature.
CANCELLATIONS: Rain, red flag days, winds above 30 mph, and unforeseen circumstances will cancel. Check the Friends of Mt Tam Facebook for updates: https://www.facebook.com/FriendsOfMtTam
CLOTHES: Weather on Mt Tam can be very unpredictable and can change quickly. Dressing in layers is recommended.
EQUIPMENT: For presentations at Pantoll, bring a folding chair.

Public Restrooms: Available at East Peak, Rock Spring, Bootjack, Mountain Home, and Pantoll.
