60+ Harvest Festival Party

  • Jewish Community Center of San Francisco 3200 California Street San Francisco, CA, 94118 United States (map)

What better to be doing than to engage in a celebration on a beautiful fall morning? Enjoy great company, glorious atmosphere and seasonal fare. We’ll not only have our very own dynamic duo of Rabbi Batshir Torchio and Maggid Jhos Singer livening up the scene, but Larry Ferrara will thrill us with his guitar mastery. Sukkot is an ancient autumnal harvest festival, one of three major festivals in Judaism. It commemorates the forty-year period when the Jews wandered in the desert after escaping Egypt and slavery while living in temporary shelters.

Stick around afterwards for a sojourn in our resplendent patio Sukkah for an opportunity to dwell in joy and hear more from Larry on guitar.

Distinguished as a performer and teacher, Lawrence Ferrara has performed major recitals in San Francisco, Los Angeles and at the Carnegie Recital Hall in New York.  He has performed with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, the Bay Chamber Symphony, the Classical Philharmonic, the San Francisco Conservatory’s Chamber Orchestra and New Music Ensemble. His playing was described by The New York Times as “subtle, intimate and inherently musical.” The San Francisco Chronicle commented, “Ferrara has an exceptional style, pure and sweet, rhythmically precise yet supple … playing everything with elegant grace and a notably serious feeling for introspection.” Mr. Ferrara has served on the Music Advisory Panel to the National Endowment of the Arts. He was full-time professor at City College of San Francisco, a lecturer at the University of California Berkeley, and a studio guitar teacher, ensemble director, and pedagogy teacher at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He has the distinction of being the first guitarist to receive a master’s degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Ferrara currently teaches guitar at San Francisco State University, and at the Spindrift School of Performing Arts in Pacifica.
