COAL + ICE: Youth v. Climate: An Intergenerational Event

  • Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture 2 Marina Boulevard, #260 San Francisco, CA, 94123 United States (map)

Join us for an inspirational Saturday afternoon event. Nate Butkas, the brilliant 8 year-old podcaster from “The Show About Science” will interview two luminaries of the environmental world, Ocean Elders’ Sylvia Earle and Captain Don Walsh. Earle, is a renowned oceanographer, explorer, and author, who was named the first Hero for the Planet by TIME Magazine. Walsh is a retired US Navy submarine captain, who in addition to his work as an oceanographer has made 25 expeditions to the Arctic.

Victoria Barrett, a youth plaintiff from Our Children’s Trust, a group of 19 young people suing the federal government for passing environmental policies irresponsible to the next generation, will also share her story, the progress of their case and their hope for the future.

Representatives from Heirs to Our Oceans, a rising tide of young leaders around the globe who are taking the ocean crisis into their own hands, will talk about educating themselves and others, and creating waves of change that will ensure the health of our blue planet for future generations.
