Hosted by the El Cerrito Preschool Cooperative (ECPC), Messy Art Day is a free annual event that celebrates creativity and community through hands-on, process-driven art experiences.
With over 20 years of history, Messy Art Day has grown from a small preschool gathering into a cherished Bay Area tradition, drawing over 1,000 attendees each year. The event is entirely put together by our dedicated parents and volunteers, who work tirelessly to bring the magic of messy, creative play to life.
Please note:
Tickets are required for the event taking place within the school grounds, which is designated for kids aged 5 and under, and their adults. The street fair events on Ashbury are open to all ages and do not require a ticketed reservation.
True to ECPC’s play-based philosophy, the event encourages children and families to explore, create, and connect in an environment where imagination knows no bounds. Every activity is designed to celebrate the joy of the process, emphasizing exploration over perfection and fostering a love of creative play. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with laughter, learning, and community spirit as they participate in a variety of art activities designed to ignite curiosity and creativity.
Messy Art Day reflects ECPC’s commitment to sustainability by incorporating eco-friendly practices. Most of the art stations utilize recycled and donated materials, reinforcing the idea that creativity and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. This event is not just an opportunity for artistic expression but also a celebration of the shared values that bring our community together.
