Monarch butterflies are perhaps the most well-known and beloved butterfly species in North America. Their renowned long-distance, seasonal migration and spectacular winter gatherings in Mexico and California have heralded the transition from fall to winter for thousands of years. Sadly, the eastern and western populations have experienced alarming declines in a matter of decades.

Join us Thanksgiving Weekend for an engaging and interactive morning to learn about the Monarch Butterfly and the role the Presidio plays in its amazing migration and what you can do at home to help this unique species on the brink. This is a family-friendly, one-mile walk roundtrip on trails, with slight uphill and downhill grades, led by Wildlife Ecologist Jonathan Young and Field Education Specialist Rebekah Berkov of the Presidio Trust, and Mia Monroe, a Xerces Society volunteer.
