SMMC Hosts: Parents of Children with Special Needs

The Southern Marin Mother’s Club is proud to host a panel discussion for parents of special needs children. 

Our panelists will include parents of children who can offer resources and insight, and who look forward to taking your questions. Topics will cover how to navigate within school districts, your rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and how to find the right organizations to support you and your family. 

Our panelists include:

Alicia Ncho-Oguie
- Alicia is a Board member of Dedication to Special, ie. PTA for special education in Marin.  
- Her daughter, Elena,is on the autism spectrum.  She is in an autism specific classroom as part of a County Program at Edna Maguire in Mill Valley.  She was disagnosed at age two and has done OT, speech, equine therapy, music theropy and adaptive aquatics.  

Nicole Siminoff
 - Nicole is a Clinical Social Worker with experience working special needs children / adults and families.  She was previously hired as therapist to work at Board of Education in New York City to complete dignostic evaluations in schools. 
 - She currently provides acedemic support to children with a range of challenges and runs a swimming program for children with special needsas is an andExectuve Board Member at Oak Hill School in San Anselmo which specializes in treating children on the autism spectrum. 
 - Nicole's son is a Freshman at Redwood High School and has severe ADHD.  

Michelle Beare
 - Michelle is a co-facilitator of Flexible Learning Opportunties 
 - Her son Leo has Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), ADHD and Specific Learning Disability (SLD).  

Nikki Anderson Miller 
 - Nikki's sons Carson and Chase are both non-verbal and in wheelchairs.  They have a rare genetic disease called MEPAN Syndrome.  
 - Both attend Neil Cummins Elementary School.  

Emily King
 - Emily is a mother of 3.  Her daughter Megan, almost 7, has Down Syndrome and Autism.
