See one of Japan’s oldest sports — Sumo. Feel the power and excitement of the 2019 Sumo Champions Exhibition matches in the Japantown Peace Plaza. Sumo (相撲, sumō) is a Japanese style of wrestling and Japan’s national sport. It originated in early Japan as a performance to entertain the Shinto deities. 

Sumo in the United States is fairly new. 

USA Sumo  produces the largest Sumo event outside of Japan called the US Sumo Open. USA Sumo comes up to Northern California annually to provide one of the only free exhibitions in the country. 

At the 2019 Sumo Champions Exhibition, expect to see four sumos battle for a top spot at each of the three exhibitions.
