Over the last school year, students from around the Bay Area advocated for change through original, youth-made podcasts submitted to the “Rethink School With MindShift” KQED Youth Media Challenge. Join us for a youth-led event featuring these young people, their original media pieces, and hear more about their solutions for their school system.

KQED and Independent Lens bring you a rousing night inspired by the new documentary Try Harder! about the academic pressure-cooker of San Francisco's Lowell High School and stressed-out seniors chasing the college dream. Comedian Irene Tu hosts an evening of live storytelling, conversation with Bay Area students, and film clips about the high stakes of educational achievement and whether college is worth the grind.

Eden is seventeen and has a deeply held secret. An outcast at her new high school, Eden discovers that her only two friends have been lured into a dangerous plot to sell their organs to pay for cosmetic surgery and prom dresses. Believing she has found the answer to her prayers, she joins them on an international adventure. My Place | My Story is a CFI Education program for teens that uses a storytelling model to inspire the production of individual 3-5 minute films about themselves, their friends, their families and their place in the community.
