A quartet of first-generation New Yorkers with roots in the Colombian diaspora, Combo Chimbita formed in 2016 as a loose combination of friends and bandmates who grew up loving heavy metal, psychedelic funk and soul. Described by NPR’s Alt.Latino as an “otherworldly presence,” Combo Chimbita is the creative unity of Carolina Oliveros (vocals, guacharaca), Niño Lento es Fuego (guitar), Prince of Queens (bass, synthesizers) and Dilemastronauta (drums). Together they transcend common concepts of time and nationality through supremely danceable music. Seeking meaning beyond a Latin American framework, they carry the burning torch of an unbroken, unsubmissive people, unshackling their essence from the cruelty of conquest throughout Abya Yala. It sounds like Colombia, it sounds like New York City, it sounds like nothing you’ve heard before.
