From marriage to motherhood to menopause, each stage in a woman's life holds many memorable moments yet also many challenges. Iris Krasnow has spent her thirty-five year journalism career finding out the answers. Known for her witty, wise, entertaining and inspirational talks, Iris will share her insights on how we can thrive in every life stage and appreciate the beauty of growing both older and wiser. I spoke briefly to Iris about her visit to Mill Valley next week.

Your talk at the upcoming Speak to Me event on April 28th is titled, "Secret Lives of Women: Thriving At Every Stage of Life.” That’s a very robust topic. What do you plan to focus your talk on?

I have written six books that mirror what I call "female generational angst", as we as women navigate our relationships, our passions and our goals throughout each stage of our lives. I will be touching upon all of these stages as I speak to you during my Speak To Me presentation, from the challenges that arise with marriage, motherhood, the work-family balance, dealing with older parents and the aging process.

What sparked your interest in journalism?

I am excited to come and speak in the Bay Area of California, as that is where I spent my Wonder Years as a college student at Stanford during the middle 1970s. It was during college that I became quite serious about pursuing my career as a journalist, and as I look back at those early dreams some 40 years ago I feel very satisfied that I've been able to do work that I love for all of these decades. And my hope is always that these books add strategies and value to women's lives.

What advice do you have for women as they navigate their way through life?

Doing work that we love surrounded by people we love is the real ticket to fulfillment for women at all stages, and all ages. I have found in a very long journalism career interviewing hundreds of women about their professions, their families and their dreams that what women want most of all, is to feel worthy, and to love and be loved.
