The Randall Museum is proud to partner with SCRAP to present RePurposeful, The Art of Collage and Assemblage, a juried exhibition of artwork from Bay Area artists inspired by sustainable practices and focused on recycling, reusing, and reimagining diverse materials to create art with a purpose. The display of more than 40 works demonstrates new ideas and approaches to sustainability, opening minds to creative ways of reusing materials and diverting waste.

Designed for visitors of all ages, the exhibition allows visitors to explore sustainability and interdependence through the collage and assemblage artworks from local artists, discover the artists’ unique insights on how to effect change through art, and try out simple collage and assemblage techniques at hands-on activity stations.

To celebrate the reopening of the Randall Museum to the general public, after 18 months of virtual programs and a summer of children’s camps, RePurposeful, The Art of Collage and Assemblage is on display in the museum’s lobby during regular hours, 10am – 5 pm, Tuesdays – Saturdays, beginning October 2, 2021. Admission is free.

“We are so excited to finally reopen to the general public with this new exhibition in partnership with SCRAP! SCRAP and the Randall both share a dedication to sustainability, arts education and accessibility,” said Tiffany Loewenberg, Randall Museum Friends’ executive director. “RePurposeful is a fun exhibit that inspires visitors of all ages to stretch their creative imagination, challenging them to see things in a new way and breathe new life into something that may otherwise have been discarded.”

Randall Museum Friends and SCRAP will celebrate the opening of RePurposeful, The Art of Collage and Assemblage with a special joint fundraiser and Opening Night Celebration, Friday, October 1, 2021 from 7pm - 9pm at the Randall Museum. Attendees will get a first look at the exhibition on display, as well as an opportunity to meet the participating artists. Light food, beer, wine, and cocktails will be served in the Randall Museum’s outdoor space. Tickets to the Opening Night Celebration start at $100, for patrons age 21+ with proof of vaccination. A Silent Auction of the artwork in the exhibition will raise funds for educational programs hosted by Randall Museum Friends and SCRAP.  Starting September 17th, art lovers can view the artwork and start bidding online. The Silent Auction continues during the Opening Night Celebration and the winners of the auction will be announced by the end of the evening Oct. 1.

Upon reopening in October 2021, the Randall Museum’s most popular exhibits will be open to the public, including the Live Animal Exhibit, the Oceans and Foundations Exhibits, and the very popular Riding the Rails Exhibit. “As we re-open the Randall’s doors to the public, we will carefully manage the museum’s capacity and require visitors to follow the SF Department of Public Health Covid protocols. Visitors will be required to show proof of vaccine (with the exception of children under 12),” added Loewenberg.
