Berkeley, invites community volunteers to help monitor the spread of the pathogen Phytophthora ramorum, the cause of Sudden Oak Death (SOD). The disease has devastated oak-and-bay forests throughout the West, including at China Camp.
We’ll explore how bats navigate and forage in total darkness, the important pest-control services they provide, and the conservation challenges they face. We’ll also discover how ultraviolet light reveals glowing arthropods such as scorpions and millipedes, uncovering a surprising and beautiful side of nighttime nature.
