Live Shows with Kids and For Kids in the Bay Area

Every year talented theater groups across the Bay Area bring wacky, fun and critically acclaimed kid friendly performances and this fall is no exception. Here are some of my favorite theater companies committed to high quality youth and family theatre education now holding auditions or classes this Fall.

MARIN

Our mission is to bring the community together, challenge the status quo, explore different perspectives, and inspire courage and compassion through a theatre program that offers challenging theatre education, exceptional productions, and the creation of new work for youth and adults, enriching the lives of people of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels.

Throckmorton Youth Performers

Throckmorton Youth Performers (TYP) offers musical theatre productions for youth ages 8-20 on the main stage, designed and directed by highly qualified theater arts professionals with an emphasis on exceptional professional quality. Students have the opportunity to audition for production roles both onstage and backstage including crew, stage managing, light board operator, and prop & costume support.

Auditions for Matilda August 20 and 21, 2019, 4:00pm-7:00pm.

Performing Arts Academy of Marin (PAAM)

Founded in a genuine love for the performing arts, we provide comprehensive training in theater arts and dance as well as additional offerings including Youth Musicals, dance teams through our PAAM Dance Company, and Summer Programs. Students receive superior training, expand their boundaries, gain valuable skills – all while building friendships and memories. PAAM equips young artists with a well-rounded arts education and the confidence to take on whatever path they choose.

Auditions for High School the Musical is Wed September 4th 3:30 - 6:30 PM.

Katia & Company

Katia & Company is dedicated to enriching our community through extraordinary experiences in the arts. We produce fantastic musical productions as well as unforgettable summer camp experiences. From our youngest performers to those pursuing a professional career, all participants are encouraged to reach their full potential - on stage and beyond.

Performance for Matilda is Oct. 24th - Nov. 3rd.

Stapleton School of the Performing Arts

The Stapleton School takes immense pride in creating a community that fosters creativity and uses the arts as a vehicle to promote personal development. One of the Bay Area's largest non-profit performing arts institutions, the Stapleton School provides a nurturing and welcoming atmosphere where participants will always find a sense of community. Auditions for The Little Mermaid for ages 8-18 years, Friday, Sept. 6 at 4:00 pm and Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2:00 pm

Novato Theater Company

The goal of the NTC is to “Present quality theater to Bay Area audiences and offer theatrical training and mentoring opportunities in a creative and supporting environment for performers of all ages.” We continue to pursue this commitment with enthusiasm.

SAN FRANCISCO

Young Performers Theatre

Young Performers Theatre serves audiences from San Francisco, Marin County, the East Bay and the Peninsula. YPT is committed to making arts education accessible to all children, regardless of social or economic circumstances. Through our Theatre in Education program, we have brought theatre and storytelling classes to children who are poor, homeless, suffering from physical and emotional challenges, and coping with a parent with HIV or AIDS.

Children’s Theatre Association

The Children’s Theatre Association of San Francisco is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing live musical theater to over 6,000 school children each year at no cost to the schools.

New Conservatory Theatre Center

The mission of New Conservatory Theatre Center is to champion innovative, high-quality productions & educational theatre experiences for youth, artists, and the queer & allied communities to effect personal & societal growth, enlightenment and change.

Our vision is that theatre is a community event and a way to build community. To provide theatre training to empower youth to express themselves, celebrate difference, and gain self-esteem.

San Francisco Children’s Musical Theater

Whether singing and dancing in a multimedia musical revue, appearing in an original film on the silver screen, or recording a song in a professional sound studio, SFCMT participants and families enjoy a unique experience with big production value for a limited time commitment. Unlike most productions that offer a handful of parts with leading characters, our one of a kind shows are custom created for each cast, allowing us to give everyone opportunities for singing, speaking and dancing roles.

Linda Bulgo's Musical Productions

LBMP offers musical theater education year round for students between the ages of 5 and 16. Our offerings are known for promoting appreciation of music, dance, and performance while maintaining an atmosphere of fun. Though challenging, our classes include time for rest and play. Instruction is led by Linda and other instructors who have dedicated their lives to the performing arts.

San Francisco Arts Education Project

The San Francisco Arts Education Project provides participatory experiences in the arts to the children of San Francisco so they are better equipped to make use of their creative abilities in all aspects of their lives.

Musical Theatre Works

Musical Theatre Works (MTW) is celebrating 20 years of offering professional Broadway show experiences for young actors in San Francisco. Students from Kindergarten to 9th grade come to MTW to sing, dance and act on stage, under the guidance of professional directors and designers.

Berkeley Playhouse produces a professional season of theater and runs an award-winning youth Conservatory program.

East Bay Children's Theatre

EBCT’s mission has four major components:

To provide children an opportunity to experience musical theater

To promote academic achievement in literacy to low and moderate income students

To expose students to new ideas that ignite their interest and their imaginations; and

To support a multi-dimensional learning and teaching environment in the classroom.

Children’s Musical Theater San Jose

San Carlos Children's Theater

San Carlos Children’s Theater is a volunteer-led, non-profit organization committed to educating youth on all aspects of theater production while nurturing creative expression, self-confidence, teamwork, and an appreciation for the arts.

Sunnyvale Community Players

SCP offers a variety of productions geared to provide performing arts opportunities to three distinct age ranges: Junior: 8 - 18 years, Young Adult: 13 - 26 years, and Adult: 18+ years. The opportunities that we provide to our community youth through our Junior productions are unmatched in the local area.
