Volunteer Day is November 22

Everyone, no matter how young, can be a philanthropist. Even if your time to volunteer is limited or you do not have the financial means to contribute, you can still be involved and introduce your child to the power of compassion and show they have the ability to make a difference by simply giving of themselves. Families inspire by example. Talk to your child about what is most important to them and what you can do to support their ideas. Then contact a nonprofit where your child has expressed their passions and figure out what you can do to help OR start your own.

Which is why I am really looking forward to recreating those memories with my daughter by taking her to see the San Rafael Pacifics play at Albert Field in San Rafael. Not only do I love the nostalgia and simplicity of today’s independent ballgames, they also remind me of those bonding times with my dad. Plus they’re an inexpensive and fun outing the whole family will enjoy.

Nature Nurturers

Nature Nurturers

This January, I encourage you to get outside and be apart of the magic that happens when your child has a chance to connect directly with nature by simply being in nature. Children cannot connect to a video game, cell phone or app in the way they do when a ladybug crawls on them, or witnesses a whale breach the water, or see a line of pelicans fly by. Take advantage of the wide variety of opportunities this month to teach, volunteer, and learn about our beautiful spot in the world.
