California King Tides Roll in
November 24–26, December 23–25, January 21–22

King tides are the highest predicted tides of the year, offering a fascinating opportunity to see how rising water affects our coastline, wetlands and waterfront communities. Several Bay Area organizations are hosting free educational walks, community science activities and cleanup events.

Rising Tides: Explore and Learn About Sea Levels, High Tides and El Niño

Saturday, November 14, 2026, 1–4 PM, Ferry Plaza, San Francisco

Presented by the Exploratorium and Port of San Francisco. Enjoy hands-on science activities and short talks about high tides, El Niño, sea level rise and waterfront resilience.

King Tides Walk & Litter Cleanup

Sunday, November 22, 2026, 9:30 AM–12 PM, Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, Alviso

Help clean up litter along Mallard Slough while learning about king tides, sea level rise, stormwater runoff and community science. Family-friendly volunteer opportunity.

King Tides Walk – Menlo Park

Tuesday, November 24, 2026, 10:30–11:30 AM, Bedwell Bayfront Park and Ravenswood Unit, Menlo Park

Join San Francisco Bay Wildlife Society for a guided walk to observe the effects of high tides, learn about wetland habitats and document changing shorelines. Approximately two miles, with a bonus Flyway Trail tour until noon.
